Extend your building's lifespan with expert roof replacement

If your roof is beyond repair, then we can work with you or your builder to install a replacement roof.

To begin with we'll organise an on-site meeting and then measure up and provide you with a quote.

Once the quote is accepted we'll organise the supply of all materials and scaffolding and give you a timeframe for the project to start. Health and safety, both for our team and you and your family is important to us, so before starting work, we'll complete a health and safety check and may ask you to move some items if they are in the work area. If asbestos is suspected then we'll work with a specialist contractor to assess the roof and safely remove any asbestos as necessary.

We'll strip off the old tiles or iron roofing and then begin installing the new roof . The completion date will depend on the size of your roof and the weather conditions during the installation, but we aim for the roof replacement to be finished within two weeks. During the project, we'll endeavour to keep your home protected from the elements.

From restoration tile work and gutter cleanings to waterproofing and flashings installation, our repair services are wide-ranging. Roof repairs can include:

  • tile restoration work to replace broken or leaking tiles and repoint ridge hips
  • replacing rusty nails or nails which have popped out
  • roof cleaning and moss and debris removal
  • waterproofing treatments
  • chimney demolition
  • gutter cleaning

Carrying out repairs to your roof promptly can help prevent small issues from turning into bigger, most costly problems and can help to extend the time until your property needs reroofing.

Know what you are dealing with, thanks to a comprehensive roof report

Before you can decide on the best course of action for your roof, you need to know the exact state of it. You can make a general assessment of your roof by looking for things like:

  • excessive rust, moss or dirt
  • broken or missing tiles
  • broken, lifted or missing metal roofing
  • sagging roofs
  • clogged gutters
  • sagging ceilings inside
  • damp spots or water marks on the ceiling

But the best way to understand the state of your roof is to get a professional inspection. We offer comprehensive roof evaluations and provide detailed reports. Our honest professional opinion guides you in the right direction to decide on repairs or roof replacement.

These reports can also be used for insurance claims, making the claim process smoother.

Key information about roof replacements

The average lifespan of a roof is generally between 30 and 70 years, but it does depend on the materials used and how often it is maintained. Reroofing is generally required when repairs to the old roof become uneconomical or the damage is too extensive.

Reroofing involves completely removing the old roof materials, replacing the underlay, inspecting and replacing timber purlins as needed, and installing the new roof.  Guttering is additional and can be replaced during the reroofing process if required.

It usually takes up to a week to complete a reroofing project. This depends on the size and complexity of the roof and the weather. We can give you a better idea of timeframe when we give you a quote.

You can normally continue living in your property and may not even notice the work unless you are outside. We can provide options to protect your property during the project in case of bad weather.

We recommend reroofing in summer or autumn because the weather is more settled at these times of the year. However, weather permitting, it's possible to replace a roof at any time of year.

Most insurance policies won't pay out for a new roof because most roofs need to be replaced due to general wear and tear over several years. However, if the roof needs replacing due to an accident or natural disaster such as high winds, it may be covered by insurance.

In New Zealand, the cheapest materials are longrun iron and metal tiles. Concrete tiles, clay tiles, and asphalt shingles are more expensive and more complicated to install.

Technically yes. But unless the damage is in a very small area and there are no issues elsewhere, then this is a short-term solution and replacing the whole roof is a much better and more cost-effective option.

This is a decision for you. But, we would say that it is much easier to install insulation in the ceiling space while the roof is off. If your insulation has shrunk below the level of the truss timber, it's got holes or pieces missing or it looks damp or mouldy, we would recommend replacing it.

The are no building regulations relating to roof ventilation for residential properties, but we do recommend discussing this while we are in the planning stags of your project.
